EXCELLENT 2006 DORADO FISHING SEASON FOR LORETO
July 17, 2006, Arturo Susarrey, Arturo's Sportfishing, Good dorado fishing at Loreto for the past 3 weeks, Loreto, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
This week we have had local storms and sometimes they have approached Loreto and we have had to hope to that the weather improves later to go fishing. The air temperatures are between 90 and 95 degrees.
The last three weeks have been the best ones so far for Dorado, including their size.
Schools of dorado's are located at the Bajo de Punta Lobos northeast of Isla Carmen, 35 miles from Loreto. Dorado's are solitary or in pairs, with an excellent size, weights of 40 to 54 pounds.
At Bajo Del Medio, 25 miles north from Loreto, we installed the buoys. There are very numerous schools of Dorado's there with an approximated weight of 15 to 35 pounds.
Ten miles east of San Juanico, along Mexico's Baja coast 25 miles from Loreto, there are schools with great amounts of Dorado and good size with weights between 20 to 40 pounds.
At this time over a 90 percent of the fishing trips are getting their dorado limits. Definitively this is an excellent Dorado season for Loreto.
Some sailfish and Marlin were found during the past weeks, and most of the time in the same Dorado areas. The big schools we had on El 50 reef have left this site.
Mackerel live bait is available at Isla Coronado or at Loreto by catching your own, or you can buy it early in the morning at the marina, at a price of 10 pieces for $15 and 20 pieces for $25.
