SPORTFISHING SITUATION CHANGING
Nov. 19, 2005, Jeff Petersen, Puerto Lopez Mateos, Magdalena Bay, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
There is wind in Loreto, so I've been fishing the Pacific side at Puerto Lopez Mateos on Magdalena Bay.
We fished the mangroves near Boca Santa Domingo two days, Wednesday and Thursday, camping one night.
The fishing was only fair. The last excellent fishing was in 2003. We used live shrimp for the most part, lisa one morning. Moon full, conditions perfect.
We caught Pargo Colorado and Alison, Grouper, Robalo and Corvina.
The Puerto Lopez Mateos fishing area is clearly changing. Time was, one rarely encountered sport fisherman other than occasional smaller boats near town. Now there is much increased activity, boats staging for the Thetis Bank with its Wahoo, and Marlin 10 miles closer. Six very big, very nice sport fishers sat at anchor as we left the Puerto Lopez Mateos waterfront.
