SPORTFISHING BOATS CATCHING ABOUT 1.5 SAILFISH PER DAY

Sailfish continue to be the action for Mazatlan, with the boats averaging about 1.5 billfish per boat day fished. Angler Jim Schoster, Roseville, MN, captured a pair of Mazatlan dorado with the larger of the two tilting the scale at 66 lbs. Mazatlan offshore catches reflected a total of 1 blue marlin, (225 lbs.) 1 striper released, 37 sailfish, (32 released) 3 yellowfin tunaa, 3 shark & 41 dorado.

Mazatlan inshore action reflected good catches on sierra, lots of roosterfish in the 10-15 lb. ranges, good catches on pargos, cochitos and an occasional cabrilla, along with smaller dorado at the shark buoys.

Mazatlan Climate: Warm & humid, temps at 72-95 with scattered clouds and a 50% chance for scattered showers.

Sea Conditions: Very good. Temps at 86 degrees and stable, no temp breaks, calm conditions

Best Fishing Area: 20-25 miles southwest of the marina El Cid at 220-240 degrees.

Best Lure, Bait: The hot lure color this past 2 weeks has been the green/orange,yellows but the rigged trolling baits were still working very well for the sailfish, too.

June 28, 2004, Yomahira Aguirre, Aries Fleet, Mazatlan Fishing Report: Temperature of the water is about 80º F. The water at the Mazatlan bay shore looks very clear. Mazatlan weather is getting humid and warm. We are having many reservations. We are surprised because this is usually not a good season for customers. But we are doing pretty good. The other day one Angler Mr. Jim Schoster from Roseville, Minnesota brought a Big Dorado 77 inches and 66 Lbs. It was a very nice Dorado. Best lure used all the time, orange and green. Billfish are about 20 to 25 miles out from Mazatlan. Lots of Sailfish, and we are getting Tunas and Dorado.
