FISHING SLOWS DOWN AT END OF WEEK
July 15, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:
The fishing during the early week was superb, but slowed up in the back half for the first time in many months. Angler activity was way off for the week, too. While the boats did average a couple of billfish per boat day, most of the fish were taken Sunday to Tuesday.
The 12 boat days fished offered 24 sailfish, (19 released) 1 striper, 10 yellowfin tuna and 9 dorado for the offshore waters.
The Mazatlan inshore waters, especially around the shark buoys, were still productive for the super pangas, with ample dorado to make limit fishing fairly easy.
Mazatlan Climate: Warm & humid, temps at 76-91, scattered clouds with some rain squalls
Sea Conditions: Generally, calm, temps at 81-83
Best Fishing Area: Closer this week, in the 18-20 mile area to the southwest of the Marina El Cid
Best Lure/bait: Rigged trolling baits were best for the week with a few fish taken on the orange/green artificials.
