LOCAL BOATS SCORE EAST LIMIT FISHING FOR DORADO

July 23, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report for Aries Fleet, Marina el Cid:

Very slow on angler activity, but for those that did go, Mazatlan fishing was offering 2 billfish per boat day fished, with a scattering of yellowfin tuna and if you wished to target the dorado, it was very easy limit fishing with lots of releases for 5 fishing days. Overall catches reflected 10 sailfish, (9 released) 5 yellowfin tuna and limits of dorado available in Mazatlan offshore sportfishing waters. Mazatlan inshore fishing action is red hot, and included pargos, roosterfish, 25 yellowtail, red snappers and all-day dorado catching & releasing. The buoys are just loaded with dorado.

Mazatlan Climate: Lots of cloud cover and a little light rain, a bit humid, with temps in the upper 80's

Mazatlan Sea Conditions: A single day was unfishable, but the rest of the week was just fine, temps running at 84 degrees

Best Lure/Bait: The sailfish were best on the rigged baits and the dorado were very easy to catch on most anything in the water.

Best Fishing Area: Dorado under the buoys and the billfish & tuna offshore about 22 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid.
