BLUE MARLIN APPEAR IN OFFSHORE FISH COUNTS

Sept. 24, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing:

According to Geronimo Cevallos, the Mazatlan blue marlin season has apparently come into play this past week, with the boats landing 4 and having an opportunity at several more.

The largest blue marlin checked-in at 310 pounds, with bigger fish being lost. Overall Mazatlan fishing was excellent, but the week was very short on anglers. Mazatlan boats averaged 4 billfish per day (7 fishing days) reflecting 24 sailfish, (20 released) 4 blue marlin and 21 dorado. Mazatlan vacation area fishing days were action packed events.

Mazatlan Climate: Warm and humid, temps ranged from 72 nights to 90 daytime highs, mostly cloudy with an occasional pm shower

Mazatlan Sea Conditions: Remained calm with light southerly breezes, temps at 85.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be 25-30 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were hot on the sailfish and the dorado, too.
