LOTS OF BILLFISH SEEN IN IMPROVING WEATHER CONDITIONS

Feb. 12, 2005, Tadeo Hernandez, Flota Bibi Fleet, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Mazatlan's fishing weather got better this week, although we still had some rains and cloudy days. Seas were smoother, that's for sure!!

The sportfishing action was so-so this week at Mazatlan, with most days sighting at least 6 or 7 billfish, but we couldn't find many hungry ones.

For 12 deep sea sportfishing trips, we caught: 6 striped marlin, 1 sailfish; 2 dorado (mahi-mahi) to 37 pounds at 4' 9"; and 1 Shortfin Mako Shark, 64 pounds and 5' 3".

The best fishing was at 180 to 220 degrees from the Lighthouse Hill, 18 to 26 miles offshore from Mazatlan.

Special mention goes to Mr. Don Ackerman and his family arriving in Mazatlan on the Holland America Oosterdam Cruise Ship and catching the 64 pound Shortfin Mako on Feb. 8 while fishing aboard the Paty C. with "Picho" and Alex as crew.
