SAILFISH ACTION SLOWS BUT BOTTOM FISHING EXCELLENT
Oct. 26, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:
Last week's hot saifish fishing at Mazatlan remained good through the weekend and then seemed to slow up for no apparent reason.
The high Aries Fleet boat for the week, the Aries II, released 8 sailfish for a single fishing day.
The fleet produced 3 smaller blue marlin, taken, one each, by the Aries I, Aries II and the Aries V.
Overall action for 38 Mazatlan fishing days produced 3 blue marlin, 57 sailfish, (41 released) and 17 dorado for the offshore waters. The inshore super panga action remained in full force for excellent bottom fishing results that included limits of red snapper, 3 jack crevalle, and triggerfish.
The Mexican mainland coast at Mazatlan had very good fishing weather, mostly sunny, 64 degree nights to 87 degree daytime highs. Sea conditions were calm, with water temperatures from 89-91 degrees. The best offshore fishing action was from 23-26 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid. Rigged baits were hot on the sailfish, and artificials took the blues.
