SAILFISH LEAD OFFSHORE FISH COUNTS

Nov. 2, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Mazatlan fishing had a little bit of a slowdown offshore, but the inshore fishing has really taken off again.

Overall catches for 30 Mazatlan offshore fishing days reflected 25 sailfish, 1 blue marlin, 2 stripers, 17 dorado and 10 yellowfin tuna to 70 lbs.

During inshore fishing at Mazatlan, the super pangas catches reflected 160-plus on the red snapper, 8 sierra, 1 torro, 3 bonito, and 20 pargo, along with 15 mojarras.

Mazatlan weather ranged from 64 degree nights to 95 daytime highs, mostly sunny and near picture perfect. Seas were calm, with water temps stable from 77 inshore to 82 offshore. The best fishing was 24-27 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid for the billfish and tuna. The rigged trolling baits, both ballyhoo and mullet were tops for the billfish.
