WIDE-OPEN DORADO CAUGHT BY ALL SPORTFISHING BOATS AT MAZATLAN
June 30, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico:
We had another easy limit dorado fishing week at Mazatlan for Marina El Cid's Aries Fleet, as every boat that targeted the dorado caught limits. The best part is the sizes, with most of the dorado landed in the 25-40 pound range. This is truly fun fishing at it's best and you can catch and release dorado all day long.
Overall reports for 34 offshore fishing days by Aries Fleet reflected 2 blue marlin, 23 stripers, 14 released, 12 sailfish, 5 released, 24 yellowfin tuna and limits of dorado for all anglers who targeted that fish.
Mazatlan inshore fishing for 16 super panga days reflected limits of dorado at the shark buoys and 5 roosterfish released.
The billfish were caught about 22 to 28 miles to the southwest of Marina El Cid, and same for the yellowfin tuna. The dorado were concentrated heavily at the shark buoys 18 miles out. Rigged baits were best for the billfish and almost anything that moved through the water for the dorado.
Mazatlan fishing weather along the Mexican mainland coast was warm, humid, cloudy and with a chance of afternoon showers, temperatures from 79 degree nights to 92 degree daytime high's. Sea conditions were mostly calm with gentle surface breezes, and water temperatures of 87 degrees throughout the area.
