SHRIMP BAITS USED IN DORADO FISHING BY ARIES FLEET

July 7, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Another good dorado week for Aries Fleet boats:

It was another bonanza dorado week with easy limit fishing for those Mazatlan sportfishing boats that targeted the fish, with the average fish at 30 to 60 pounds. But, you won't believe what the hot bait was for these critters: shrimp. Yep! That's what the report said and it's the first time I've ever heard of it.

Overall fish counts for 34 offshore and inshore Aries Fleet fishing days out of Mazatlan's Marina el Cid reflected 9 sailfish, 7 released, 2 striped marlin released, 3 big roosterfish released, 8 yellowfin tuna, and 228 dorado.

Mazatlan weather was mostly cloudy, warm and humid, with air temperatures from 79 to 95 degrees. Sea conditions in the main fishing areas wee mostly calm, with water temperatures from 86 to 87 degrees. The billfish and tuna came from southwest of the Mazatlan, 22 to 28 miles out, along with scattered dorado, too. The main dorado catches were at the shark buoys.

Rigged baits worked best for the billfish and shrimp for the dorado.
