BIG SIERRA COUNTS FOR BOATS FISHING OUT OF MARINA EL CID

Jan. 12, 2007, Cortez Yacht Charters, Larry Edwards, Marina el Cid, Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico:

Mazatlan's inshore light tackle fishing action for sierra is probably as good as it gets. It continues to produce easy limit fishing for sierra including numerous releases.

Fishing with light spinning gear or bass casting tackle and with almost anything that flashes in an artificial lure, will get bit.

The offshore fishing action at Mazatlan continues to focus on the striped marlin with about a 60 percent success rate for the charter sportfishing fleet.

Overall charter boat catches reflected 12 stripers, 2 sailfish and 1 dorado for the offshore fleet and daily limits of sierra for the inshore super pangas.

The weather along the Mazatlan sportfishing area of Mexico's Pacific Ocean coast was mostly cloudy, with air temperatures that ranging from 56 degree nights to 82 degree daytime highs.

Mazatlan seas were mostly calm with surface water temperatures that reflected 73 degrees inshore to 75 degrees offshore.

The best inshore fishing action is along the white sandy beaches to the north of the Marina el Cid, and the best offshore fishing action continues to be out to the southwest of the marina, approximately 24 to 28 miles out.

Rigged baits were producing the billfish and almost anything that moved through the water was attracting the sierra.
