OFFSHORE SPORTFISHING ACTION VERY THIN FOR LOCAL ANGLERS
June 5, 2005, Charlie Plott, Mulege, Mexico Fishing Report:
I just returned from Mulege. Fishing was difficult. Alex, the guide out of the Hotel Serenidad, managed to catch dorado near Isla Tortuga. My wife and I followed him out in my boat that day and got one blind dorado strike.
Other days produced no dorado with Mulege fishing boats going back to Isla Tortuga and also ranging out to 30 miles at 40 to 90 degrees with no results at all.
On Wednesday I took my boat out about 30 miles at 60 degrees where the water was a beautiful deep blue with temperature at about 76 degrees with no wind but I saw no signs of dorado or billfish. A stop on the inside at Punta Concepcion produced some roosters on lures and light tackle. The wind got up on Thursday and we headed back to California on Friday.
On the way back we trailered through the Baja 500 race on Saturday and found the traffic so choked at San Ysidro that the police were forcing cars to go to Otay Mesa, where the wait was on the order of an hour and a half.
