JULY DORADO STEADY FOR BOATS FISHING IN ALL DIRECTIONS
July 19, 2005, Ron Grant, Mulege, Mexico Fishing Report:
I Just returned from a five-day run to Mulege. The weather was hot, with the water temperature in the mid 70s.
Dorado are scattered but most boats manage to get 3 to 8 fish a day. One day, it's the boats that go north, and the next day it's the boats that go south. I found good numbers between Santa Rosalia and San Marcos Island. Most dorado are caught on feathers, most any color, and cut bait after the stop should get another fish.
Lots of billfish are in the Mulege fishing area and in good numbers. Blue and Striped Marlin and Sailfish. Some of the boats are fishing for only billfish and coming up with one or two fish a day. They seemed to be sportsman and catch-and-release types. Good for them. Local fisherman are pulling feathers for Dorado but manage billfish hookups as well.
The runway at the Hotel Serenidad is in good condition. U.S. Customs is spending lots of extra time searching all aircraft clearing border.
