VERY GOOD DORADO FISHING ACTION 22 TO 28 MILES OUT
Aug. 16, 2005, Gary Thomas, Mulege, Mexico Fishing Report:
We only got to fish at Mulege on Sunday the 14th, but had a good day. We managed 7 dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish), 2 bulls of 22 pounds and 15 pounds, and the rest hens.
One hen was probably a 12 pounder and the rest 4 to 8 pounds.
We also caught 2 stripers, 125 & 150 pounds.
Everything was caught while trolling 22-28 miles out of Mulege on a 30 degree heading from the lighthouse, all on 6 and 8 inch jets, blue/white, pink/white, Mexican flag, and bleeding mackerel.
Mulege fishing water temperature was 84 to 85 inside and 83.2 to 84 out where we found the fish.
It was one of those beautiful flat Baja days. Several long liners were off the point. There were many gill netters/long liners in the converted shrimp boats between Santa Rosalia and L. A. Bay, probably 10 to 12 at least.
We saw 1 net that seemed to have a couple of whales in it. We went down to take a closer look and it appeared that a couple of the pangas were trying to get them freed but the whales were making quite a commotion. We didn't have a lot of fuel to spare and took off after a couple of passes.
