DORADO CLASSIC FISHING TOURNAMENT RESULTS
June 3, 2006, Rick Barber, Mulege, Mexico Classic Fishing Tournament Results:
The Summer "Just for Fun" Mulege Classic Fishing Tournament was held on Thursday and Friday, June 1-2, 2006. Mulege had absolutely beautiful sportfishing weather and water conditions for the event.
The water, with temperatures reported into the very high 70's, was like glass and there was just a slight breeze to knock down the temperatures into the comfortable range. A total of 82 anglers went out vying for the prizes of $700 for first place, $400 for second, and $150 for third. Anglers also vied for a Calcutta pool of 24,170 pesos ($2,137 USD) for the boat boating the heaviest two fish of the tournament.
The tournament was won by Mike "San Marcos Mike" Kanzler with a very nice bull of 24 pounds 6 ounces Second place went to William Lugar, 24 pounds 2 ounces, and third place was won by Ed Hogan of San Bruno, 23 pounds 4 ounces.
The Calcutta was won by Mike Blackmon of Napa, Calif., who was fishing on Mike Kanzler's boat along with Joe Miller also of Napa. Mike's father, Walter, has a vacation home here in Mulegé.
Mulege dorado cooperated nicely, although most of the fish were smaller, in the 10-15 pound range and most of the bigger fish were caught the first day.
