TOUGH PANGA FISHING CONDITIONS IN WIND AND SWELLS
Sept. 24, 2004, Ken Jones, Puerto Santo Tomas, Mexico Fishing Trip:
Went fishing at Punta Santo Tomas last weekend, but nothing major to report. The usual rockfish and barracuda. Nothing worthy of a "report".
Went with Chris Gessel again and stayed in one of Sam's cabins at Puerto Santo Tomas Resort. On Sunday the wind was brutal yet we went out. After a few hours a huge swell came in and rocked the boat as we bottom fished and our captain's eyes got big and he muttered "malo" at which point we all felt that was a good time to head back in. Puerto Santo Tomas is still a great spot close to home.
One thing though; every single time I go there, it comes home again: Baja is a dangerous place to drive, any time of day. In the exact same spot as we saw a wreck a month ago, was another one, a car cut in half by a small bus that then skidded down the embankment, kind of on that hill coming up to Maneadero. Personally I'll take the dirt roads ANY day to Highway One.
