GOOD BAJA PANGA FISHING WITH CAPT. MARCOS
June 21, 2006, Glenn Sugiki, good panga fishing with Capt. Marcos at Puerto Santo Tomas:
I fished this past week at the Puerto Santo Tomas Resort. I have to say this was the first time I went fishing in Mexico from a panga and the resort was one of the friendliest and best places I have ever been to.
Two of us fished. The fishing was very good on June 15th and 16th, with limits of reds, lingcod and some chuckleheads on squid. We caught about 10 fish each of mostly reds and chuckleheads. Also 2 lingcod each for 2 days of panga fishing. We got seasick on the first day and cut our fishing short after just an hour of fishing.
We fished Soledad Reef. We used Jax jigs about 4-6 ounces in white and also in purple-black tipped with squid with 2 dropper loop 3/0 hooks tipped with squid. We fished in 150-200 feet deep.
Capt. Marcos our guide was very helpful on putting us on the fish. Sam Saenz opened up the resort for my buddy George and me, the only guests there during the week. He had Vicky the cook make us great meals including a lobster dinner. Sam stayed at the resort while we were there just to ensure everything went all right. The service was beyond par and they treated us like family.
The road and directions to Puerto Santo Tomas were easy to follow. We got there in less than 2.5 hours drive from the border. I will recommend this place to all my friends. The cost was just $255 for 3 days, 2 nights, 5 meals and 2 days panga fishing.
