GOOD FAMILY PANGA FISHING OUT OF THE RESORT
Aug. 26-27, 2006, Michael Halverson, Puerto Santo Tomas Resort, Baja, Mexico:
Our trip to Puerto Santo Tomas Resort was Saturday, August 26, and Sunday the 27th.
I and my two daughters were treated like kings and queens by Sam Saenz and his crew. Puerto Santo Tomas panga guide Marcos took my four year old daughter Shelly and me out for some bottom fishing. I don't know the names of the reefs, but we fished just to the north and south of Puerto Santo Tomas.
For the two days I think we fished a total of around ten hours, just to the north and south of Puerto Santo Tomas, I think no more than about a mile out.
On two rigs, with three people fishing including my four year old daughter, for the two days we landed over sixty fish. Most were good sized rojos, some vaquetas, some whitefish, two lingcod, and some other beautiful bottom fish. We rented Casa Grande #1 at Puerto Santo Tomas Resort.
On Saturday we got a real late start and only caught around twenty or so assorted bottom fish including reds, whitefish, vaquetas, etc.
On Sunday we fished mostly about a mile or so off Punta China and caught over forty-five fish. Mostly big rojos, vaquetas, whitefish, two ling cod, and an assortment of other beautiful and tasty bottom fish.
I reeled in fish until my arms didn't work anymore. My little daughter Shelly hooked and fought that ling for a while, and I brought him up. She did the same with a couple of whitefish, rojos and others. That was her first time fishing. She is now a fisherman for life and can't wait to get back out there!
We really had a great time! Thank you Santos for helping us pack up, Marcos for his professionalism, attention to safety, and the special attention and care he gave to Shelly. Thanks to Martin and Victoria for such a warm welcome at such a late hour, and for the excellent food service. It was an incredible package, making sure our vacation was fantastic.
