SPORT BOATS FIND LOTS OF SAILFISH ACTION SOUTH OF THE BAY
Oct. 10, 2004, Juan Pablo Moll, Mr. Marlin, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Fishing:
The fishing has just been great all over. If you decide to stay in the bay, your chances of catching a nice sailfish or a mahi-mahi are really good. This time of the year at Puerto Vallarta some fish head south of the bay that's were we have deeper water and it gets nice and blue. If you decide to go a full day it's even better once you pass the Marietas island it's almost a guaranteed fish.
Almost every Puerto Vallarta fishing boat out there is getting from 5 to 10 strikes a day and that just for sailfish. If you find a log or some debris you better be ready to have a good time with the mahi-mahii and they have been really good sized ones. Also there's a place called carilleros just outside the bay. Now that the roosterfish are here you can catch them with caballitos or google eyes. You get that bait in the Puerto Vallarta marina before you go out. If you go to corbetena it gets better. Getting there and catching live bait skipjack or small tuna, if you troll them you have a good chance of hooking with a marlin or a nice size tuna and the same thing goes on in the banco. The water temp. has been in the higher 80 and the color of the water changes with the days but most of the time is clear blue.
