MARLA'S SPORTFISHING BOATS GET STEADY ACTION ON TUNA OVER 100 POUNDS
Oct. 23, 2005, Danny Osuna, Marla's Sportfishing, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Fishing Report:
On Saturday, Cesar Jimeno from Guadalajara, Jalisco caught a 230 lb tuna on board the Marla 2 with Capt. Danny Osuna, fishing in at Roca Corbeteña in Puerto Vallarta waters. Water conditions were nice, flat day, no wind, no swell, with a great water temp, of 87 degrees. There was a lot of bait activity in the morning from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Lucky we have the tuna tubes.
The baits today were a little slow. We had only 3 strikes, and we lost 2. but we landed a nice 230 lbs yellowfin tuna.
Oct. 21, 2005, Danny Osuna, Marla's Sportfishing, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Fishing Report:
Brent Garrison of California caught a 175-pound yellowfin tuna on Oct. 21 aboard the Marla 2, with Capt. Danny Osuna, fishing in Puerto Vallarta waters, where the conditions were 87 degrees water temperature, 5 knots north wind.
We got out there to Roca Corbeteña first thing in the morning, and it was very easy to make skipjack bait.
We loaded up the tuna tubes and we slow trolled 3 skipjacks for about 30 minutes when we had the first tuna come to strike the downrigger bait. We let it have it a long time off to make sure we had a great chance to hook this fish, which we did, but only for few minutes and this lucky fish got away.
Five minutes after we lost this tuna, we had a big black take the outrigger bait. We let this black eat the skippy for few seconds and we had the hook up again but it only lasted about 8 minutes.
We did know what we were doing wrong, but we knew we had one more chance, and we did about 1 hour later we this nice 175 pound tuna took the downrigger bait and this fish wasn't as lucky as the 2 first fish. So after a 30 minute battle we had a bloody deck on the Marla 2.
