A 225-POUND YELLOWFIN TUNA CAUGHT ON THE SPORTFISHING BOAT MARLA II
July 8, 2006, Danny Osuna, Marla's Sportfishing, Big cow yellowfin tuna caught at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico:
Jose Vicente Chao of Offshore Angler caught a nice 225 pound cow yellowfin tuna and Tom Mathias from Shakespeare Fishing Tackle caught with a 130 pound tuna aboard the Marla II with Capt. Danny Osuna, while fishing in Puerto Vallarta waters at El Banco. The water condition was flat seas, with a little breeze in the evening. The water was at 88 degrees, and green.
Puerto Vallarta fishing it's getting really good. We saw a lot of big yellowfin tunas from 130 pounds to more than 200 pounds crashing all over the bait fish at El Banco. We slow trolled a few skippies for 6 hours and only had one single strike which we missed. These tunas were feeding on Skippies and another bait we call cigar that looks like caballitos. Anyway we were waiting to have good breeze to do the kite. Around 4:30 p.m., we had just a perfect wind. We set our fly lines out there and of course the kite. No longer than 20 minutes later, we had a double hookup a 220 pounder and 130 pounder tunas. Jose Chao and Tom Mathias were blessed, landing both fish at same time after 40 minutes of battle.
Our Puerto Vallarta charter fishing boat Marla III with Capt. Scott Osuna and our boat Arca de Noe with Capt. Alonso Osuna, and the Marla II as well, all had a good fishing week, landing a lot of fish, tunas, pargos, marlin, and a few other mixed species.
