WAITING FOR THE SUMMER RAINS TO ARRIVE

July 8, Danny Quinonez, PV Marlin Sportfishing, Puerto Vallarta sportfishing report for the Lorena:

The last 2 weeks have been rather slow fishing for this time of year at Puerto Vallarta. We have not had the rain yet this year. Usually by this time of year, the bay is full of debris and the fish hang out just on the outside in the blue water. We only had 3 fishing trips this week on the Lorena, and we just picked away at some of the smaller Tuna to about 20 pounds.

Most of the fish being caught are at El Banco and that requires a 10 or 12 hour trip. We did miss 2 big Tuna, probably in the 200 pound range on a 12 hour trip last week.

Puerto Vallarta sportfishing area seas were rough and it made for some tough fighting. We are hoping the rain comes soon. The fish are out there, but they are scattered and seem to be staying down deep.

Last year, some of the first big Tuna we caught had huge crabs in their bellies. That tells me they are feeding down deep. We have some longer fishing trips scheduled for next week, and we might just try to jig some up from the bottom if we don’t do well on the surface. I’m sure Puerto Vallarta sportfishing conditions will change as soon as we get that rain.
