HOT MIXED BILLFISH ACTION WITH PRIME TIME ADVENTURES

Jan. 21, 2007, Prime Time Adventures, Capt. Josh Temple, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico:

Despite some rather chilly winds from the northwest this week, the fishing remains red hot here in Puerto Vallarta.

The south current coming up Mexico's Pacific coast returned this past week and with it came deep blue water and the highest sea surface temperature we've seen at Puerto Vallarta since early December. This south current, pushing at an average of 2 knots, has warmed our offshore waters to 82 degrees and sparked an incredible bite for lucky anglers fishing with Prime Time Adventures this past week.

Fishing on Friday January 19th, history was made once again aboard the Puerto Vallarta charter boat Frantic Pace with captains Herk Marsella and me, Josh Temple. Visiting anglers from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, enjoyed a fantastic day of offshore fishing.

Five minutes into the day a 350-pound blue marlin crashed a lure on the left rigger and Raph Bruhwiler succeeded in releasing the fish after a spectacular aerial battle.

Next up, a striped marlin, followed by a sailfish were brought to leader and released.

Immediately thereafter, the boys were covered up by tunas and dorados before finally setting the hook on another big marlin this time a black.

After a tough battle the crew scored the release on the black and made it an official Billfish Super Slam.

That was only my second-ever billfish grand slam.

The final total for the one day outing was 1 blue marlin, 1 black marlin, 1 striped marlin, 1 sailfish, 4 tunas, and 3 dorado. The group also lost 3 other marlin, 2 sailfish, and a handful of dorado and tunas.

I think it's fair to say that this is one of the best bites of the fishing season at Puerto Vallarta so far this year. And we are certainly looking forward to what tomorrow brings!
