GOOD GULF GROUPER ACTION FOR SPORT BOAT END OF THE LINE
Aug. 5, 2005, Rick Felder, Rocky Point, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
I fished out of Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) last weekend on my boat End of the Line. I fished Sunday morning 7/31 in 100 feet of water for 3 gulf grouper of 65, 40, and 30 pounds. All fish were caught on live grunts. The water temperature on the surface was 87-92 degrees.
I fished about 16 miles southwest of Cholla Bay which is about 7 miles north of Puerto Penasco. We made bait 2 miles west of Cholla Bay in about 30 feet of water.
The fishing weather at Rocky Point was very still with a little cloud cover all morning, flat calm water, and HOT! Cholla bay provides excellent refuge from rough water as long as the wind is from the south or east. The water turned blue 10-12 miles out of Rocky Point, but we did not see any surface action or schools of bait.
