GOOD CORVINA ACTION FOR SPORTFISHING BOAT END OF THE LINE
Aug. 30, 2005, Ric Felder, Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
I fished from Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco) on my boat "End of the Line" last weekend 8/27 and 8/28.
Rocky Point had hot fishing weather and light breezes both days, with a 2 to 3 foot chop both days. The fishing water temperature at surface is still close to 90 degrees.
I fished dead mackerel baits on Saturday in 165 feet of water for good catches of corvina and leopard grouper. We fished 18 miles west of Rocky Point and caught one leopard grouper and about a dozen corvina.
On Sunday we fished shallower in 110-130 feet of water with live grunts and also made a few drifts jigging large scampi jigs with a sierra mackerel on the hook and picked up two nice grouper of 45 and 55 pounds and one pinto bass of 20 pounds.
There are about half-a-dozen species of grunts that we catch at Rocky Point, and all work equally well for grouper bait.
