HALIBUT FISH SPECIES CONFUSION

Dec. 5, 2005, Ryan Jenkins, Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), Mexico Halibut Fish Species Identifications:

I just read Shawn Gustafson's halibut fish report for Rocky Point. He called them California halibut.

They were in fact Cortez halibut and in the most current research that I have done I have found that many ichthyologists actually consider them to be the same species while some consider them a subspecies and very few still consider them a completely separate species.

Anyways, Shawn really scored on them!
