Oct. 8-9-10, 2005, Matt Blair, San Carlos, Mexico Cantina Cup Fishing Tournament Report:
The inaugural Cantina Cup Game Fishing Tournament was a huge success at San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico, October 8th, 9th, 10th 2005. With 27 boats, 108 anglers, and 98 billfish caught, the tournament is well on its way to becoming a must-fish event for serious saltwater anglers.
Hosted by the Marina Cantina and Deli in San Carlos and by Cirrus Visual Communication in Tucson, Ariz., the Cantina Cup raised $5,400 for the local charity of RESCATE, who provides 24 hour emergency medical aid to San Carlos residents and visitors alike.
Some of the best San Carlos fishing of the year resulted in 76 marlin, 22 sailfish, and 19 yellowfin tuna being caught in just two days of fishing. All 27 boats caught at least one billfish. The champion team of Martillo, who also had the winning the yellowfin tuna, received over $12,000 in prize money. The level of competition and professionalism of all people involved insures that the Cantina Cup will continue to attract top quality anglers and provide support for the community of San Carlos.
