HUMBOLDT GIANT SQUID WIDE-OPEN BITE AT PUNTA SAN ANTONIO
Nov. 25, 2005, Craig Collins, No Sniveling, San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
No Sniveling was fishing on the water out of San Carlos for a couple of hours on the 20th. Fishing off of Punta San Antonio, there was a wide open bite on Humboldt giant squid, in 59-61 degree water.
I saw two San Carlos boats with one yellowtail each, and that was it. From what I hear, the squid are still very thick there, biting almost anything that moves. Mine were caught on CD18 and CD 22 Rapalas trolled on wire. They were in fact, right on the surface. I saw several large "boils" in the midst of the huge schools of bait fish off the point. I was getting bit within 75 yards of the point, in water as shallow as 40-50 feet. From what I hear from Fernando Almada, they are still there and being caught running Rapalas on mono, not deep at all.
