HUNDREDS OF VACATIONERS IN TOWN FOR CODE RACE
Dec. 12, 2004, Catalina Meders, Title Company Bookstore, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico:
Beautiful warm San Felipe is just delightful in the sun. In fact it is almost TOO hot on the balcony. The temperature is supposedly around 66 degrees, but it feels much hotter in the sun. Yesterday was perfect also. The water temperature is 65 degrees, and the humidity is 50 percent, but I think someone has been tampering with the machines. None of this FEELS like that.
There was a CODE race yesterday which finished here in town and today there are hundreds of racers roaming the streets celebrating, lots of business for the vendors and the eating establishments, which is particularly good news this year, which has been, according to those who study these things, the worst for business in a long time. We don't know whether it's due to the election or the war, but the gringo's just aren't spending money as they usually do.
Quite a few people passing through on their way to Gonzaga and Mulege, via THIS side of the peninsula, and some folks just stopped in to say they are sailing down to Bahia de Los Angeles which should be a wonderful trip. The bay has been cerulean blue and calm as a lake for two days, plus a large school of fish has attracted hundreds of birds. They put on a spectacular diving show yesterday. WOW! How could we have ever lived anywhere else?
