CARNAVAL FESTIVAL ATTRACTS VACATION VISITORS
Jan. 30, 2005, Catalina Meders, Title Company Bookstore, , San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico:
Hola everyone from San Felipe. The weather is beautiful today, as it was yesterday too. The thermometer says 60 degrees, but it is too hot to wear long sleeves in the sun. The humidity is 46 percent, and the water temperature at San Felipe is 62 degrees and calm, it is that particularly beautiful shade of turquoise blue it sometimes achieves.
The celebrations for San Felipe's Carnaval started last night when they crowned the Queen of Carnaval and her court down here on the malecon. It seems like everything is happening so fast this year. Carnaval itself runs from the 4th through the 8th of February. Some winter visitors who frequent the store a lot came in the other day with a photograph of several very large fish which I think they said were called "Pompano" which they had caught just south of San Felipe, right from the beach. I was very impressed and they were thrilled.
Already San Felipe is being serenaded by the familiar sounds of off-road bikes as Baja 250 fans start practicing for the big one, which is on Feb 25-27 this year. San Felipe will be virtually packed most weekends this coming month, great news for the business population, but it is already getting near the time when people start leaving to go and prepare their taxes. Got to go do a state-of-the-bay check, tough job, but SOMEBODY'S got to do it. So until next week, Vaya con Dios from the San Felipe bookstore on the balcony.
