NEW YORK ANGLER LANDS 53 POUND
GROUPER ON MOTHERSHIP ERIK
June 11-16, 2005, Dana Kerby, Baja Sportfishing, Inc., Erik, San Felipe, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico Panga Mothership Fishing Report:
This fishing trip out of San Felipe was primarily a charter by Sonny Loo of El Centro. There were also 7 fishermen and one fisherwoman from the New York area.
The fishing was the best this week, and the captain, due to the gps and fish finder, was able to find another peak, similar to the Golden Reef, and it appears that the potential is even better than the Golden Reef.
Sonny Loo, charter master, caught a 49 pound white seabass and several large red pargo.
Kil Song, of the New York area, caught one of the large grouper, 53 pounds.
There were a number of leatherback grouper caught as well. The captain refuses to divulge the coordinates, because once it is discovered, the commercial fishing boats will come in and clean it out like they did the cabrilla in the area of San Luis Gonzaga.
The Erik fished at Refugio, Punta Diablo, San Esteban, Vibora, Punta Final, Ensenada Grande and the Encantadas. It was too windy to fish at the Golden Reef.
Fish Count: Yellowtail 250; Cabrilla 178; White Seabass 3 (33 to 49 lb); Red Pargo 82; Grouper 4 (27 to 53 lb.); Leatherback Grouper 36 (20-50 lb.); Miscellaneous (including a number of large sheephead) 217.
