MIDRIFF ISLANDS MOTHERSHIP REPORT FOR THE TONY REYES

Oct. 8, 2005, Tony Reyes Jr., Tony Reyes Fishing Tours, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico Panga Mothership Fishing Report:

The panga mothership Tony Reyes returned to San Felipe on Oct. 7, 2005, with a catch of: 45 Humboldt squid to 15 pounds, 10 pargo to 10 pounds, three shark released, 187 yellowtail to 36 pounds, 60 cabrilla to 10 pounds, two grouper of 100 and 105 pounds, 150 spotted bay bass, one pinto bass of 10 pounds, and 35 miscellaneous fish released.

We left from San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, at 11:30 a.m. The sea was nice and calm. We had a report that Hurricane Otis would hit the Sea of Cortez with heavy winds and lots of rain.

We arrived at the Midriff Islands without problems. Fishing on Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, was cloudy with some light breezes from the southwest. Everybody caught nice yellowtails while fishing with live bait around Raza and Partida islands. Later we moved to fish at San Francisquito Bay, where we found lots of live bait, lots of Humboldt squid and big yellowtails of 24 to 34 pounds. They were biting on live bait, chunk bait, and jigs. Two big grouper were landed in the same area. One weighed 105 pounds. It was caught by Bob Berryman from Tustin, Calif. The other grouper was caught by Marcos Meza, one of the guides of the Tony Reyes boat.

Later, the wind blew hard from the northwest. This limited the area to fish. We ended up the fishing trip with nice weather.
