PEOPLE ARRIVING FOR BAJA 1000 RACE
Nov. 13, 2005, Catalina Meders, Title Company Bookstore, San Felipe, Mexico Town Report:
Hola everyone from San Felipe, Mexico, where the weather approaches perfection as each day goes by. This morning the temperature on the balcony is at 74 degrees. Yesterday it went up to 80 degrees up here. The humidity is about 33 percent, and the water is a warm but not too warm 75 degrees. Sleeping last night was fine with an average of 60 degrees.
Right now San Felipe bay is pale steel blue and calm, though there is a very slight breeze.
Lots of people were in town yesterday, plus the usual assortment of astronaut-suited Baja 1000 practicers. The race, as we all know, is next weekend. Many people will go out the power-line road to watch as the vehicles fly by.
Yesterday we had Judy Botello come do a book signing at our store. Her book, THE OTHER SIDE, speaks of the time Judy got to know and love Baja during the years between 1978 and 1993 "The Peaceful Years" as the author puts it.
Yesterday we couldn't help reflecting on the radical changes that are occurring now, especially here in San Felipe. It seems like every other person who comes into the bookstore is either just about to buy property or has just bought property here. The road to Puertecitos is almost completely repaired. There are at least four HUMMERS in town now. It's definitely shifted from peaceful to whatever is next on the scale.
Until next time, vaya con Dios from the San Felipe bookstore by the bay.
