COOLER WEATHER, SHRIMP FESTIVAL PLANS,
AND MEXICALI HIGHWAY WIDENING
Oct. 7, 2006, Catalina Meders, Title Company Bookstore, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico:
Hola everyone from San Felipe, home of "No Bad Days." The local weather is becoming more beautiful daily. Right now, at high noon, the temperature on the bookstore balcony is 87 degrees and the humidity is supposed to be 30 percent but it sure feels much drier than that.
This morning there was a definite "nip" in the air at San Felipe, which felt marvelous, and I didn't have to turn the air conditioners in the store until just a moment ago. Last night I slept with a blanket!
This is all very good news. The next event up of course is the annual San Felipe Shrimp Festival, Nov. 3-5th, which is one of the first big gringo events of the year, and the swap meet up at Cachanilla in El Dorado north of town started last week. It probably won't really get rolling until the end of this month though.
The town of San Felipe continues to boom with bright-eyed real estate agents moving through the streets in relentless squadrons. This place is changing exponentially.
The highway just outside of town to the north is in full construction mode with giant road-building machines running all day long. It seems that some of the houses that used to be set well back will now be standing within kissing distance of the trucks on the road. Ah well, as Ed says: "It's all good..." Until next time, vaya con Dios from the bookstore by the bay.
