TOWN DEVELOPMENTS AND 3 BOATERS SAFE
AFTER SINKING NEAR CONSAG ROCK
Oct. 21, 2006, Catalina Meders, Title Company Bookstore, San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico:
Hola everyone from San Felipe the town which I single-handedly put a jinx on by raving about the delightful cool weather we had started having. Well right now, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, it is 92 degrees on the balcony with a 30 percent humidity level. Yesterday the air temperature peaked at 96 degrees.
San Felipe's weather has been very nice at night though with the air being in the comfortable low 60's and I am able to keep the bookstore relatively cool with just open door and windows.
Today the bay is blue like the Mediterranean Sea and the air is clear and still. I can look right across the bay at the skeleton high rise condo buildings being erected near the marina. One of them is going up quite quickly while the other is taking a really long time.
It seems very strange to see these behemoths dominating the beach, and there are more coming, including a Cuban-style night club inside the newly revamped Las Misiones Hotel which should be pretty fabulous.
This coming spring there is to be a Blues and Art Festival at San Felipe for which preparations are already underway. Can a Jazz Festival be far behind?
I still have very mixed feelings about all this, as do many of my buddies, but it's definitely happening.
On a relieved note, the three gentlemen who spent two days on Consag Rock after their boat sank are all safe and feeling great and they have a great tale to dine out on for many months to come. Until next time, vaya con Dios from the bookstore by the bay.
