PANGA TRIP AT LOS CABOS

May 26, 2004, Ruben Tapia, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing Report:

Day 1, May 23, we troll most of the day for Marlin and only see 1. We go inshore for the last hr and find the Roosters ready and willing but I only manage to hook one at 25lbs.

My brother-in-law Bobby Osterheim caught 1 jack crevelle at 15lbs to round out the day.

Day 2 (24th) and still determined to get a San Jose del Cabo Marlin, we decide to go for Roosters first and see if the bite is better later on in the day. Roosters were willing again but were being picky and played with our bait more than anything. We did both manage to catch two Amber Jack to 17lbs. b4 heading out for the Marlin. When we got to the grounds it was amazing. You could see them everywhere. I wound up catching a 200lb Striped Marlin and Bobby got one at 160Lbs. We could not revive mine so the capitan said the guys at the beach would eat it just fine. We noticed that it's belly was full of squid. This was an awsome day since neither of us had ever caught a Marlin.

Day 3 (24th) We went for Roosters again. This time our San Jose del Cabo panguero Carlos and his son from Francisco's Fleet (I heard Victor's split in two and this is the other fleet) said they wanted to keep the Roosters cuz they liked the meat. We would up catching two 40lb class monsters with the larger at 41lbs. We topped off the day with some grouper, pargo and trigger fish.

This was a trip of a life time and I will definately go back. Wish I could make this report better but I am suffering from a lack of sleep and too much cerveza. Only got 3hrs to go so I'm out hermano!

P.S. Heard one guy say on the 22nd his wife caught a 70lb Rooster and One guy who caught a 35lber from shore on the 23rd off La playita!
