VERY SLOW FISHING FOR SPECIES AT LOS CABOS
June 4, 2004, John Snow, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico fish species results:
Executive Summary: Two, one to one and half hour, San Jose del Cabo surf trips with one good and one poor producing a total of five fish! Three, six to seven hour, San Jose del Cabo panga trips with Captain Pata which were slow by normal standards, with the exception of a two hour stretch on one day that was truly fascinating.
There were a nominal number of Gringos fishing but they had very limited catches. The highlight of the week was the ability to chum in a group of Dog Snappers and similarly a school of Purple Surgeonfish.
Overall came in contact with 25 individual species of which one was new (what I believe to be a Jack Smelt) that requires additional study.
The weather from a temperature perspective varied from excellent to ice cold on the last day with strong early wind. San Jose del Cabo water temperature improved slightly but still was a frigid 72 degrees.
Major targeted game species count from three days of Panga fishing: Flag Cabrilla 3 (19 last trip); Leopard Grouper 1 (9 last trip); Mexican Bonita 1; Sierra - 2; Dog Snapper 3, Yellow Snapper 3 and Purple Surgeonfish - 3.
I would rate this as the poorest week that I have experienced in five years.
