LOTS OF YELLOWFIN TUNA WITH
CAPT. CHAME OF GORDO BANKS PANGAS
Oct. 21, 2004, Joe Flores, La Playita, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
Got back this week from an excellent fishing trip in San Jose del Cabo. We fished out of Eric Brictson's Gordo Banks Pangas with Chame and his brother Jesus as our captains. We fished three days. First day we had a wide open yellowfin tuna bite. Small fish but good fighting. They were caught between Palmilla and La Playita in front of the hotels.
We had a few dorado also in the mix.
Day two, we decided to go to the lower Gordo Banks for the really big tuna. We landed a 60, 70 and 80-pound San Jose del Cabo tuna that day with a mix of small tuna and dorado. The big tuna were caught on 60-pound fluorocarbon and chunk bait.
Day three, we decided to go for Wahoo. No luck on the jigs or Marauders but nailed them on the Chihuils. We missed a lot of wahoo but managed to nail two of them. We were fishing at the Vinorama spot.
Also in the morning we had a school of dorado that came by and had all the boats around us hooked up. They were hitting everything including Iron.
Later in the afternoon while trolling for wahoo with the Chihuils we managed to get a couple of nice big bull dorados to end our day.
