PANGA TRIP WITH FRANCISCO'S FLEET AT PUNTA PALMILLA
Nov. 14, 2004, John Migeot, Punta Palmilla, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico Panga Fishing Trip Report:
On the Nov. 7, 2004, Joe Horvath and I were on our way to Los Cabos. We fished four straight days. Two days at San Jose del Cabo with Francisco's fleet at Punta Palmilla, then fished the next two at Rancho Leonero.
Day one, we fished with Jesus. We met at 6:00 a.m., and went straight to Palmilla Point for bait. It was small 2-inch sardines. Then, we were off toward Cabo San Lucas. We fished about a mile east of Cabo and about a mile straight out from the lighthouse.
I didn't have much confidence in the small bait, but it wasn't long before Dodo number one hit, then another, then another. Small fish, 10-20 pounds, but mucho fun on 15-pound. Soon three footballs gobbled the small bait and really tested our gear. The Needlefish and the birds tested our patience by steeling much our two-inchers. Then came the Bonita. We still hadn't moved. One of the bonita was small enough that we decided to troll it. We didn't get 10 yards when bamm! a bull dorado dove through the air and crashed our bonita. What a spectacular show. That was our largest fish of the day, 30-35 pounds. We end up with five Dorado and three Tuna. Thanks, Jesus.
Day two, Francisco set us up with Ramon. Ramon loves to catch big fish. We traveled up to La Playita and got larger bait, 4-5 inch anchovies. Then we traveled back to the same spot as day one, straight off the lighthouse. The result is five larger Dorado, 20-40 lbs. They are so beautiful and so much fun to catch. The boat next to us hooks and lands a Striped Marlin while reeling in a Bonita. It was a little bumpy going back in. Another great day. Thank you, Ramon.
