PALMILLA BAY SPORT PANGAS FISHING AT GORDO BANKS
March 11, 2005, Luis Duhart, Palmilla Bay Sportfishing, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico Report:
San Jose del Cabo had beautiful fishing weather all week, with just a very little wind. Most pangas out of San Jose del Cabo were fishing at the Gordo Banks, and bait was plentiful for mackerel but scarce for sardinas. The pangas got a lot of sierra, pargo, pez gallo or roosterfish, and some even got shark.
We had Susan Rawson's group, fishing on San Jose del Cabo (Los Cabos) charter fishing cruisers for three days, and they caught all kinds of fish, dorado up to 20 pounds, and some football size tunas. Most marlin were released.
We also had Ed Raphael. He comes fishing every year at San Jose del Cabo. He went on a 2 Hermanos panga and caught several dorados and sierras in the Iman area, mostly with green lures and macarela.
We also had a wonderful group from Carson City, Nevada, and they went fishing in the Alejandra cruiser, 33 foot, with Capt. Rabo. They went to the Inner Gordo Bank and caught sierra, pargos, and a beautiful roosterfish of about 80 pounds. They were Gravin O'Neal, Joe Meolano, Maida Vermillion, and Helgo O'Neal. They had a great time and beautiful weather.
The water temperature in the gulf is warmer than the Pacific, and that makes the gulf a better choice now for San Jose del Cabo anglers. The San Luis, Iman, and Vinorama banks are good San Jose del Cabo fishing areas right now, and of course the Gordo Banks.
