SCATTERED, SLOW FISHING FOR
PALMILLA FLEET CHARTER BOATS
July 1, 2005, Luis Duhart, Palmilla Bay Sportfishing, San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico Report:
The San Jose del Cabo (Los Cabos) fishing vacation area had another week in paradise but with a lot of marejada or rough swells that is making the fishing kind of hard.
Apart from the marejadas most of the week, making it difficult to launch the pangas in the early morning, the sportfishing action has been mostly around Punta Ballena at 20 to 15 miles out.
The Gordo Banks are still not producing much, except for some bottom pargos and cabrillas. Close to shore areas are a gamble, but sometimes lucky, like Tony Chowainec from New Jersey who fished Thursday in one of our cruisers named Aaron with Capt. Martin and mate Pablo, who caught a 180-pound yellowfin tuna just outside Palmilla Bay, maybe 3 miles out.
We had some pangas going out fishing, and mostly they were catching roosterfish and pargos in several locations, but none in particular.
The fishing weather at San Jose del Cabo should be getting better and next week will have new anglers and new stories.
