TWO DAYS OF FISHING WITH GULUARTE FLEEET
Aug. 1, 2005, Jim Eakin, La Playita, San Jose del Cabo fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
My brother-in-law Jim Eakin and I fished on Saturday and Monday at La Playita, San Jose del Cabo (Los Cabos), with Antonio Guluarte and Marcello of GuluarteFleet.com.
We fished with our kids on two pangas Thursday. We got a 15 lb. dorado and hooked and fought a marlin for 10-15 min. before the hook pulled! Jim fought a manta ray for half-an-hour on the jig stick.
The second day of fishing was looking grim after we hooked 2 more marlin, one right under the boat by Jim, and we lost both!
Antonio got a call on the radio...porpoise! He scanned the horizon until he found his friend and put us right in front of the dolphin school. The live bonitos we jigged up earlier were inhaled by 2, forty pound yellowfin. Sushi-time!
We stayed with the school and got four nice jack crevalle on hoochies and sardinas.
Jim had a potential world record after hooking a 30 lb. (according to Antonio and Marcello) jack on 25 lb. test, Pro Gear reel, and custom Pappy rod. We didn't have the IGFA record book with us and found out back at the room he let a world record go! We did get some good pictures though.
On the third day of fishing, Jim's girls Ashley and Kaylee and my son Stephen and friend Nick Watson went out after an easy beach launch. Score for Jim and the girls: one marlin hookup and fight with thrown hook, one football tuna, another manta ray, three bait fish. Dave and the boys got: one 30 lb. amberjack for Stephen, a needlefish for Nick, and Dad missed the hook-set...again, as we trolled past Punta Gorda, plus one bait fish. We got beat bad. Another great San Jose del Cabo fishing trip with Antonio and Marcello, they fish hard and teach you while you fish. Log on his website for sportfishing charters.
