WIDE-OPEN ALBACORE 13 MILES OUT OF SAN QUINTIN
June 16, 2004, Kelly Catian, El Capitan Sportfishing, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico:
I had long time San Quintin fishermen Mark and Jimmy Chi on Monday and tuesday.
Monday was wide open on the albacore, with fish up to 30 lbs. We started trolling at 13 miles 260 degrees from the San Quintin point and were getting doubles, triples, and some on bait as well. By 11:00 am we had 25 fish on the boat!!! Limits for all 5 of us!!!
The other San Quintin boats were doing pretty good too. On tuesday it slowed down quite a bit with only 2 tuna and some yellowtail on paddys. We went in and loaded up on some big Rock cod. The rest of the San Quintin fleet did about the same. Oscar got 2 albies and went in to the 240 rock and got some yellows on the slow troll for John Cote. San Quintin water was 62-64º and blue on the outside, 60º on the inside with greener water. The swell was 1-2 ft out of the west. Wind was NOT!
