YELLOWTAIL AND WHITE SEABASS FOR PEDRO'S BOATS
June 27, 2004, Pete Hillis, Pedro’s Pangas, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico fishing:
Albacore is not the news this week. This week yellowtail and bass are the catch of the day at San Quintin.
Jeremy James of Signal Hill, CA brought a group of 4 and fished on the Skipjack with Roberto as captain.
Greg Morton from San Diego, CA brought a party of 4 to San Quintin and went out with Captain Hector on the Romey, and his brother Scott Morton, also from San Diego, brought down 3 friends and fished on the Garron with Captain Lupe.
All 3 boats fished San Quintin’s nearby San Martin Island for limits of yellowtail, the biggest being 24 lbs.
Our Captain Hector decided to go to San Ramon, just north of the island where he came across a huge school of white seabass. The sea bass were huge, the biggest one being 26 lbs. Everyone brought in limits of white sea bass, calicos and sand bass.
Mike Bowls brought a group of 4 and fished on the Pelicano with Miguel as captain. His party instead chose to chase the albacore with no luck up to 22 miles off the point.
Water temp at San Quintin is 63 degrees, but as of Sunday morning the albacore are hiding--no luck. San Quintin weather has been overcast in the mornings but the afternoon temps are rising, being in the low 80's.
