PEDRO'S SENDS 15 BOATS OUT FOR STEADY
YELLOWTAIL AND BOTTOM FISH ACTION

July 11, 2004, Pete Hillis, Pedro’s Pangas, San Quintin sportfishing, Baja California, Mexico:

This past week, we had fifteen boats out. LImits of yellowtail, 15 to 25 lbs., limits of ling cod and rock cod for San Quintin bottom fishermen. Paul Brewer from Cypress, CA brought a group down to San Quintin and fished on the Pelicano with Captain Miguel. The first day's catch was limits of yellowtail, and the 2nd day, limits of large ling cod and rock cod.

Royal Plumbing from West L.A., had two boats for two days (on the Romey with Captain Hector and the Skipjack with Captain Sapo), with similar results. San Quintin’s yellowtail are at the north end of the island. Early morning bite has been trolling with rapallas (blue mackerel pattern seems the best). Afternoons the results are better with jigs, going deeper for the yellowtail (blue/white and chrome/blue have gotten the best bite).

The San Quintin weather was light winds Friday and Saturday, but not enough to hamper the fishing. Sunday captains reported seas were flat. San Quintin water temps remain the same (63 degrees). Air temps have been in the high 70's to low 80's.

Sergio and Maria at the Old Mill Tackle Shop reported that they are out of rapallas due to the wide open yellowtail bite. Anglers should bring enough for their own replacements if needed. FYI: CD 14's are working the best.
