FREEZER FULL AFTER FISHING WITH CAPT. BEAR GARCIA

Aug. 29, 2004, Maurice Nakagawa, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico:

Lousy fishing out of San Diego, freezer empty and the bite was on so on to San Quintin we go. Ken Imoto, Mark Kamei, Maurice Nakagawa and Clark Saito arrived at Don Eddies on Sunday, 8/15, fished the 16th and 17th and returned home on the 18th.

Contacted San Quintin fishing Captain Bertoldo (Bear) Garcia of Garcia Pangas and chartered a 27 foot panga, FANY IV, for 2 days.

Pickup was 0530 and at 0530 the boat, on trailer, picked us up in front of our rooms, loaded our gear and by 0600 we were making bait in the bay. Loaded up the tank with mackerels and the hunt started.

Went south of San Quintin bay looking for Yellowtails and White Seabass. Caught a lot of Sand bass. Went out a few miles to Bears secret spot for Reds and Lings and filled the in-floor fishhold.

On the way in, stopped for Yellows or Seabass, no go. Stopped for Halibut at the San Quintin bay entrance and Clark and Mark caught some pretty nice flatties. Finished the day cleaning fish, bagging, icing and drinking beer. Dinner was at San Quintin's Cielito Lindo for the World Famous Cracked Crab and Stuffed Shrimps. Good music, good salsa and great food.

Day 2 again started with pickup at 0530, made bait and south we went. Filled up the hold with limits of Sand Bass, Yellowtail, Reds and Lings and again stopped for Flatties and this time Ken caught a beauty on the first drift. Seen a few big croakers chasing irons but no luck. San Quintin water temperature in the low 60s, OAT @ mid 70s, new moon, flat seas.

Had a nice drive home to Orange county on the 18th.

San Quintin fishing was great, food great, no water and electricity late Tuesday nite (fish didn’t get cold in the refrigerator, previous days defrosted!) Yes, one of the rooms at Don Eddies had a 20 cu. Ft. refrig. Ice was readily avail. Old Mill majestic as ever. Garcia's Pangas excellent. GPS, fishfinder, water temp, pickup at rooms, dropoff at cleaning sinks, first boat in and last boat out, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Garcia’s Pangas, Tel. 011 52 616 165 3372, Captain Bear.

Freezer now full!
