BIG WHITE SEABASS TO OVER 50 POUNDS
Sept. 8, 2004, Kelly Catian, El Capitan Sportfishing, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico:
White seabass up to 50+ almost every day and lots of yellows at a spot only 15 mins out of San Quintin harbor. Over this last weekend i had my buddy Monte Kotur and his girlfriend Lisa Castagnola also her aunt and uncle Eileen & Craig. We fished the Don Eddies Labor Day tournament and had fish up to 40 lbs but the contenders were in the 50,s so we got knocked out.
Yesterday me and Local buddy Chris Pierce went out to do some free-diving/spearfishing, we went to the 240 and the water was 74 degrees!!!!!!! and clear blue!!!!! There were yellows EVERYWHERE!!!!!! on my first shot i hit my target, about a 30 lbs yellow and the shaft went through him and hit another behind it too!!!! I had to fight two yellows in 30 lbs range but managed to get both to the boat. There were so many yellowtail coming through that we just sat and watched as school after school passed by, it was awesome.
We then started to troll west of the rock and within 15 mins we had a triple hookup (we were only trolling 3 rods) 3 yellowfin tuna about 15 lbs, and then it was on. Tuna and dorado were jumping all around the boat, we didn't have bait so we threw jigs and were instantly picked up by Dorado or Tuna! right on the surface. There were no other San Quintin fishing boats out as everyone was after the inshore stuff so we just sat there a mile or so off the 240, me and chris and the fish!!! We released a lot of dorado and tuna and kept the bigger fish, anyhow it,s ON ! San Quintin fishing water is as warm as it gets, 75 degrees inside the 240!!!!! anything can happen.
San Quintin weather is insane....hot and flat seas. San Quintin water temps are in the mid 70s no wind, seriously.
