BIG COUNTS ON SANDBASS AND LINCOD
ABOARD THE CHARTER BOAT MARINERO
Sept. 20, 2004, Tim Moore, Go To Baja Tours, San Quintin, Baja fishing, Mexico:
Bruno Sutherland from Tustin and Dave Shanor out of Long Beach fished at San Quintin out of "El Capitan" with Captain Oscar Catian on Sept. 17, who put them onto some barracuda, bonita, white seabass, sand bass and large lingcod to fill their ice chest with.
The sand bass and ling cod bite was phenomenal. San Quintin water was a bit dirty for tuna from hurricane Ivan down south but the other than that it was sunny and calm on that Saturday. The white seabass was, I'm guessing, around 35 to 40lbs.
They fished on the Marinero. It is a 26 footer. Their Marinero II has a tuna tower, this one doesn't. They fished to the south of San Quintin, offshore of a little village called Tranquilo about five miles off shore. The fish hit on a blue and white ironman lure jigged off the bottom.
At about the time it hit, the sun had just broke through the marine layer. The ocean at San Quintin was flat that day with no wind. Oscar stayed out late with them on a hot ling cod bite using live bait before heading back in.
