YELLOWTAIL HITTING IRON JIGS AT SAN QUINTIN SPOTS

Dec. 14, 2004, Capt. Kelly, K&M Offshore Sportfishing, San Quintin, Baja California, Mexico:

This week started out great with yellowtail in good numbers at more than one spot. The 15 to 20-pound fish are taking blue-and-white small iron and some scrambled egg colors as well. Although we didn't use any bait I'm sure it would work.

There was one spot on the west side of the 6 fathom spot that has been really good. On Sunday, Oscar, Chris and myself went out to the 6 after doing some bottom fishing. We pulled up to the area and there were a couple of other boats already there, Kurt "Chato" Lundquist on his Sea Cat, and local fisherman "Tito" had a couple guys on his boat.

As we pulled up, "Tito" called on the radio to see if we had any jigs we could spare, because his guys had lost the last one they had. After choosing a few jigs (colors I don't use!!!) and giving them to Tito, we start dropping jigs. Oscar gets stopped on a blue-and-white single hook jig and farms it...&%$%$!!!!!! Then Tito's guys were BOTH on...on OUR Jigs!!!!!!

Kurt is 100 yards off my stern and everyone's bent. People are hooking up all around us, and we can't get bit!!! And then as quick as it started, it stopped. There were still Yellows biting at the 15, but we were suffering from post yellow-farming syndrome, so we called it a day.

San Quintin weather has been foggy and there is a swell expected for Friday that is supposed to be huge!!! Other than that, there's been no wind. Water temperature was 62 degrees and clear blue in some areas. Yellows continue to bite so call if you want to pull on some. New phone number, 949-370-6532.
